Penelope is such a sweet girl, but she can certainly be very vocal when she is not getting the food nor attention that she thinks that she deserves. She loves to snuggle and loves her belly rubs. After eating, she comes and makes it known she is ready for a good rub. She will then collapse on her side, making it very clear she wants her belly rubbed. We just love watching her run as it looks like she is wearing high heels.
We first fell in love with Penelope in the summer of 2017 when we were staying at a house with a hobby farm near the Twin Cities. We would go over and look at their pigs, cows and chickens. Dawn and Berkli became very attached to this very cute little black pig. Towards the end of the week, Dawn asked the owner of the hobby farm about the pigs. Turns out, all of the animals were being raised for meat as this was a sustainable farm. This clearly did not sit well with Dawn and Berkli. As a result, we inquired about purchasing Penelope. The owner thought she meant for meat, but Dawn explained that she meant for a pet. The owner thought about if for a while and agreed that it would be difficult to take such a sweet thing to slaughter. However, she would need a friend. So…along came Wilbur.
Recently, Penelope began experiencing seasonal alopecia. So, if you come during the winter, you will most likely see that Penelope has gone bald. When the hours get longer, and the temperature warms, her hair comes back.
